Freshman English II is the 2nd year of Freshman English for students in the two-year FEM program. The primary goal of this course is to improve students’ proficiency in communicative language skills with an emphasis on speaking (30%) and grammar (70%), and to help students gain confidence in using English in social interactions.
It aims at improving students’ grammatical accuracy, oral fluency, listening comprehension, and vocabulary, especially vocabulary related to the topics in Interchange II and III.
Types of speaking and listening:
Most class activities will center around role plays and dialogues, both in small groups and in front of the class. The dialogues should sometimes include lengthy forms of discourse such as narration and description. Students are encouraged to integrate language patterns covered in the textbook into their dialogues. There will also be some discussions and debates on controversial topics.
