教育目標

In the past half century, a number of advances have been made in reproductive technologies. This course aims to allow students gaining a comprehensive knowledge of the procedures and techniques developed and adapted to the field applications for enhancing the reproductive efficiency of farm animals and for the clinical treatment of infertility in human. It begins by introducing artificial insemination and how this has recently been refined in semen sexing technology. Embryo transfer, technologies related to production in vitro of embryos in those farm animal species and potential techniques for superovulation, oestrous syncronization and embryonic sexing etc. will also be reviewed. Subsequent lectures considering the control of postpartum ovarian activity, seasonal breeding, multiple births and litter size, pregnancy testing, parturition, and the onset of puberty. The more recent developments in cloning and the production of transgenic animals will be introduced in detail before the final section on suppressing reproductive activity. It is anticipated that upon completion of the said course, students will be equipped with much better insight knowledge in the rapidly advancing field of assisted reproduction and a highly practical understanding of their applications.
