Practical Business English is a broad introduction to core knowledge, skills, and abilities that are part of the modern corporate environment. Topics covered in this course include: career development, appraisal meetings, and performance reviews; business environmental issues; international financial reporting standards; research and development (R&D) as a business strategy and economic driver; history and trends in marketing; and the changing nature of work and labor. Parent companies, subsidiaries, and their suppliers are often scattered around the globe in different countries and cultures. This globalization has led to international business communication being commonly conducted in the English language. This course is designed for students who may need to apply their English language skills in a business that uses English as part of its day-to-day operations or to communicate with foreign partners. With practical speaking and writing assignments that are aligned to class discussions, student learning will be enhanced with inquiry into corresponding real-world issues. This course will be taught entirely in English with an instructor who has spent more than 12 years in the American business community. Students are required to purchase the textbook for this course.
