教育目標

1. The course will follow a chronological approach and survey the utopian tradition from its earliest antecedents in Plato and the NT to modern literature and film. . 2. Students will acquire a good knowledge of some of the key texts (e.g. More's Utopia, Huxley's Brave New World, Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-four) and concepts in the utopian tradition. 3. Students will conduct research projects and give presentations and write papers on assigned topics, as well as topics of their own choice; in doing so, they will achieve proficiency in the conventions of scholarship and bibliographic procedures and develop the ability to write well and do substantial scholarly and critical work in a specialized field. 4. The course draws attention to the way in which contemporary debates regarding the Internet, government surveillance, income inequality, and human rights, as well as global warming and environmental protection, are shaped by and in turn reinvigorate the classic genre of utopian fiction.
