This course is intended to illustrate through practical laboratory experiences the theoretical basis and applied design principles for patch clamp instrumentation. Patch clamp is a laboratory technique in electrophysiology that allows the study of single or multiple ion channels in cells. The technique can be applied to a wide variety of cells, but is especially useful in the study of excitable cells such as neurons, cardiomyocytes, muscle fibers, and pancreatic beta cells.
Train students to be able to record and analyze common electrophysiological signals with multi-clamp 700B amplifier etc. Also students would be able to design an experimental pulse protocol related to different channel types and execute correct measurements. In the end, they will summarize, discern, critique and plot the results from their own data.
