教育目標

By the end of the course students should be able to: • Understand the nature of literature to film translations and the differences between the language of literature and film. • Be able to write a critical analysis comparing an adapted film to its literary counterpart • Understand the varying ways scholars and critics approach literature and film translations.

課程概述

Literature and Film is an elective course that aims to introduce students to the core concepts and relationships between literature and film. Students will learn about the nature of literature to film translations, the differences between the language of literature and film and how one would go about translating short stories, novels, poetry, and plays into film. Furthermore, students will follow two case studies (Jane Austen’s Emma and Shakespeare’s Macbeth) by reading the novel/play and watching and discussing the many translations of the texts into films. At the end of the semester student groups will adapt a short story, play or section of a novel into a short film to present to the class.
