教育目標

After you have completed this course, you should have a deeper understanding of music as a cultural marker. We will spend time learning how to analyze musical works by ear, with attention to form, timbre, instrumentation, lyrics, emotion, and reception. Part of our process will be learning how to discern our own biases, and working against them toward as balanced an intellectual view as possible. You will also be exposed to a sizable body of classical, popular, and traditional music that you likely would never have come across until this course. It is my hope that this course will enrich your life and deepen you understanding of how identity is constructed, within and across cultures.
