課程概述

This 3-credit course targets graduate students who are seeking an in-depth understanding of using surveys and statistics in planning, designing, conducting, and evaluating language research. It is not an introductory research methods course; students’ completing the “Applied Linguistics Research Methods” course is a prerequisite for taking this course. The course will cover the following seven major topics: planning a survey project, designing a survey instrument, gathering and compiling survey data, analyzing survey data statistically, analyzing survey data qualitatively, and reporting on a survey research project, and critiquing survey research studies. Sample research studies and assignments of hands-on practice will be incorporated to help the students better understand and apply what they learn in this course.
