課程概述

Representing Apocalypse is a seminar for third- and fourth-year students. This seminar will discuss the idea of the end of the world which is specific to many cultures, both Eastern and Western. In recent years, there has been a virtual explosion of various representations portending an impending global apocalypse, present in contemporary literature, film, music, on the internet, and in various other media and popular culture forms. This course will examine the origins of apocalyptic thought and representation, with selections from ancient texts such as the Bible, the Book of the Hopi, etc. The course will also look at post-apocalyptic popular representations concerning the aftermath of an expected global catasptrophe. Finally, the issue will be considered from a cautionary mode.
