教育目標

Why do some people around the world have more food to eat, while others live on less than a dollar per day? How do geography, urbanization, agricultural productivity, education and technology affect development in a particular country? How does the global economy and its institutions affect development around the world? The objective of Economic Development is to provide some answers to these questions by using the available models in development theory, and studying real-world country cases. ¨Textbook: Economic Development, 8th edition, by Michael Todaro and Stephen Smith.

課程概述

Development Economics is a course involving the problems and policies of those countries that have not yet reached the level of economic well being observed in the western world. At the completion of this course, students will have a better idea of what is meant by “developing countries” and “development.” Students will also be familiar with several theories of development, and what implications they have for this important part of the world. Finally, students will have a better understanding of a number of topics that shed light on the development process, including poverty, inequality, education, international issues, the role of the government, environment and population issues.
