By the end of the semester, students should:
1. have a grounding in current theories in SLA;
2. have a basic understanding of Universal Grammar and SLA;
3. appreciate the relation between linguistic theory and data;
The course aims to introduce to students various topics in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) which deals in particular with learner development. Students will be introduced to topics which have been addressed by second language researchers and will gain some familiarity with techniques used for data collection as well as theories proposed to account for second language development.
