教育目標

In this course, we use English to discuss and prepare scientific research for publication in SCI journals. We study the goals and pitfalls of writing the different sections of scientific papers. Students develop their own papers and practice peer review by evaluating the papers of their classmates. This course is designed for students preparing proposals or publishable papers. Research Paper or Proposal: Students will prepare a thesis proposal OR a scientific paper in a format suitable for publication in a journal in their research field OR a review paper in a format suitable for publication. Discussion Labs: One week before the scheduled discussion, students provide paper copies of their work to everyone in the class. Electronic copies (disk or email) are not acceptable. Preparation for lab includes reviewing and revising classmates’ assignments. Labs are devoted to discussing and evaluating each student’s work.

課程概述

We study the goals and pitfalls of writing the different sections of scientific papers. Students develop their own papers and practice peer review by evaluating the papers of their classmates. This course is designed primarily for students (graduate or undergraduate) preparing proposals or publishable papers. Grading is based on improvement in writing (50%) and on participation in discussion (50%). Two textbooks required.
