|Daily work||80||Tests, regular attendance, exercises preparation|
|Mid-term||10||Pronunciation of syllables and reading of short French texts|
|Final term||10||Reading of short French texts; basic questions to answers (introducing oneself)|
At the end of the semester, learners should have a correct pronunciation. They hopefully will be able to understand and use familiar and daily expressions as well as very simple statements in order to satisfy practical needs: introducing oneself and someone else, ask someone information about one’s family and one’s environment and be able to answer him/her about the same kind of topic. Learners should be able to interact with a native speaker of French providing that this speaker is willing to speak very slowly and repeat his/her statements if necessary.
In the field of culture, learners will develop an habit to dissociate themselves from their native culture in order to better understand foreign cultures, specifically French culture.
Course description: students will be trained first to pronounce correctly French by learning all the phonetic rules which govern syllabic pronunciation. Then they will move to read texts in order to better assimilate a close to reality pronunciation. In the second stage, conversation will be emphasized with group and individual activities. Oral skills will be the core of this course. Apart from language learning, students will be introduced to various aspects of French culture through a methodology appropriate to intercultural situation (analysis of social values, social representations, body language, foreign culture as a mirror of one’s culture, etc.)
