This course introduces and applies the principles of economics to the study of how individuals and organizations make decisions in a market economy, and to the study of how laws and regulations interact with the economy. It focuses not only on how and why people make decisions that have consequences for the society and economy, but also on how economic institutions, policies and laws can be compiled with incentive-based mechanisms to make economic activities and social orders more into balance with human desires and the needs of the economy. Course contents include an introduction of economics, incentive and choice, consumer demand, price and resource allocation, specialization, market efficiency and governmental intervention, externality, common resources and public goods, perfect competition and monopoly, digital economy, and game theory.
