教育目標

The purpose of this course is to give students an historical overview of music during the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. In addition to the Mid-Term and Final Exams, two large quizzes will be given (in average, after each three chapters). The text for this course is the Burkholder version “A History of Western Music”, 8th edition (2010). The music example book and CDs which accompany this book are also important materials for class and reference. The curriculum would be divided into two large units: Middle Ages and Renaissance.

課程概述

The purpose of this course is to give students an overview of music during the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods. In addition to the Mid-Term and Final Exams, four large quizzes will be given (in principle, after each two chapters). Short quizzes may also be given at the beginning or end of a class period. The text for this course is the Burkholder, Grout, Palisca, A History of Western Music, 7th edition. The music example book and CDs which accompany this book are also important materials for class and reference. The class is divided into two large units: Middle Ages and Renaissance. Quizzes will count 60% and the exam at the end of the unit will count 40%. The grade averages for each unit will be combined and averaged for the final score.
