Course Descriptions This course is an introduction to the broad field of educational psychology. We will examine basic psychological theories, principles, research methods and findings, and apply them to an understanding of teaching and learning in the school setting. Our coverage will include six major areas: 1) an introduction to educational psychology; 2) human development; 3) individual variations; 4) learning: theory and practice; 5) motivation, management, and teaching; 6) assessment.
1. To evaluate the relevance of current trends in theory and research for the everyday needs of teaching and learning. 2. To analyze current practices in teaching and learning with regard to their basis in theory and research. 3. To evaluate instructional problem situations and design solutions based on theory and research findings. 4. To communicate the tenets and findings of psychological theory and research to teachers and students in such a way that they can be used to guide everyday practice.
