Attendance 5 Each student has 50 points for his/her attendance. Each one-hour absence will lead to a 5 points deduction from the participation grade, and 2 points will be subtracted for each time you are late.
Participation 5 You are required to earn this grade by volunteering to answer or ask questions in class or emailing in English or practicing English to Joyce after class. For each attempt you have made, you will earn 1–3 points) depending on how well you can perform.

教育目標

By the end of this semester, students should be able to: 1. Understand English dialogues and stories about everyday topics that freshmen would be familiar with; 2. use English orally for real-life communication in the outside the classroom; 3. apply the basic reading skills learned in class to reading in a variety of contexts which contain 1500-word-level vocabulary; and 4. compose comprehensible 3-paragraph texts with organized structure.

課程概述

Aims of Course Freshman English for Majors is a four-skills course taught exclusively to majors of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. The goal of the course is primarily to improve students’ proficiency in communicative language skills with an emphasis on speaking and writing. A functional, notional approach is taken to planning objectives to help students gain confidence in using the English in social interactions. Therefore, active participation in the class is a prerequisite for successful completion. Content A variety of activities are used throughout the year including dialogues, role-plays, pair work, small group projects and whole class discussions. The syllabus includes a general review of grammar and many class activities attempt to integrate these grammar components. Therefore, students are given the opportunity to apply the rules to real-life situations that they might encounter in an English-speaking country. Teachers encourage students to monitor their grammar usage while improving their level of fluency.
