教育目標

PERFORMANCE PRACTICE: FREE ORNAMENTATION AND CLASSICAL CADENZAS This course extends performance practice to creating free ornamentation for solo movements of baroque works, writing and performing preludes and classical cadenzas. Adagios were considered the most challenging movements for baroque players. A preliminary knowledge of the first semester course is assumed before students can undertake this course. The sessions will include the following: 1.Improvising simple melodies. 2.Observing examples in the literature: a.Vivaldi b.Handel c.J. S. Bach d.Telemann’s Methodical Sonatas (performance of one) 3.Free ornaments to Adagios 4.Studying and performing Preludes 5.Classical cadenzas Sources: Music, treatises, Free Ornamentation in Woodwind Music (Mather and Lasocki), The Classical Woodwind Cadenza (Mather and Lasocki) Assessment: Class assignments and attendance 30%; Midterm exam: Performance of Adagios and analysis of Sonata 30%; writing of cadenzas 10%; Final: Classical Concertos and their cadenzas 30%.
