Midterm exam	15	Written exam (4 pages)
Final exam	25	Written exam (6 pages)
Quizzes	10	One or two tests
Attendance	10	If you are late for class, each time 5 points will be taken off the Attendance grade. If you are absent from class, 5 points will be taken off the Attendance for each one-hour absence. If you fail to post or upload your reading log on time, 5 points will be taken off the Attendance for one day late.
Oral presentation	5	Each student is required to give a 2-minute speech about English learning experiences.
Independent study	15	Pair work; each Independent Study pair is required to create a handout of 20 senetnces & the rules and to have a 10-minute conference with the teacher. The knowledge about your independent study will be graded.

教育目標

On completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. recognize the elements of sentence structure; 2. improve their reading comprehension; 3. develop a perspective on the relative importance of several ideas within a single sentence; and 4. be alert to unexpected errors in their everyday reading.
