教育目標

By the end of the course, students should have achieved the following objectives: 1. A strong comprehension of the works read in class, including subject, themes, characters, settings and construction. 2. An understanding of how narrative works to engage the reader and create meaning. 3. The ability to understand and correctly employ the vocabularly used to analyze story construction. 4. An awareness of the variety, breadth and depth of 20th century American literature.

課程概述

This course will explore modern American short fiction, both the traditional short story as it has been practiced over the last hundred years, and the more recent trend of flash or sudden fiction. We will read, discuss and write about a variety of American short story writers, with an eye toward understanding the breadth and diversity of the literary landscape in the US.
