On completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. Listen critically to English lectures, conversations and presentations; 2. Focus thoughts logically as they organize their own thoughts and opinions in English; 3. Convincingly express their thoughts and opinions orally to groups of people; and 4. Critically evaluate and discuss global problems and issues in the English language.

課程概述

Intermediate English Listening, Speaking and Critical Thinking is an integrated English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) course that is focused on spoken English in academic contexts. The two language skills of listening and speaking will be developed as students think critically about real-world geopolitical, social and cultural issues and then share their thoughts orally through a series of speaking activities. Featured listening skills include: listening for main ideas and details; understanding sidetracks; comprehension of meaning from context; inference meaning; asking questions while listening; and hearing context clues. Featured speaking skills include: making sidetracks and returning to the topic; asking negative questions; softening assertions; reporting what someone has said; making judgments about the future; making suggestions; and discussing timelines, conclusions, and past events. Featured critical thinking skills include: interpreting information; selecting relevant information; considering viewpoint and bias; evaluating claims; drawing conclusions; and assessing credibility of sources. This course will be conducted entirely in English.
