Course description: This is the first of seven “Global Leadership” courses in the Program in International Business Administration of the International College. This course examines personal identity in historical perspective, by examining what it means to be Taiwanese at the beginning of the 21st century. The course examines Taiwanese identity from a global perspective, not only so that students will understand “what Westerners think of Taiwan,” but also so that students will understand their own Taiwanese identity in global terms. The course will examine questions such as: •What are Taiwan’s economic, social, and political challenges and prospects? •What does it mean to be “Taiwanese”? •What are “Taiwanese values,” and how have they changed historically? •What are my personal values, as an individual, as a Taiwanese, and as a citizen of the world? •What is my identity as a global citizen?
