教育目標

✴ Introduce anthropology. Students will be introduced to basic anthropological concepts including culture and social change, to better understand trends in global consumerism and to provide students with a more holistic appreciation of human diversity. ✴ Conduct cross-cultural analysis. Students will develop critical thinking skills by using cross-cultural analysis to understand consumer consumption in different cultures. This will allow students to develop a broader understanding of consumption in different cultures, and compare and contrast different means of production, consumption, and the meaning placed on commodities. ✴ Understand the consumer and producer relationship. Students will be able to identify the role consumers have in the global economy and the power they exert. They will also be able to link consumer cultures to processes of globalization and localization, while highlighting the economic and political implications consumer cultures have on social class, regionalism and nationalism. Students will be able to understand how commodities produce values and meanings to consumers. ✴ Understand the effects of a consumption society. Students will investigate and analyze whether current consumer cultures are sustainable. This analysis will examine the role consumption plays on our physical environment, including issues such as poverty, immigration, and morality.
