教育目標

On completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. use 100% English with their classmates and future co-workers to complete cooperative projects, 2. express their opinions to and exchange ideas with classmates and native speakers in English, 3. communicate ideas in English for discussion/debate/casual and formal presentation, and 4. communicate effectively in English in small group discussion in formal and informal situations with both native and non-native speakers of English.

課程概述

The purpose of this course is to develop English communication skills by performing activities that promote, protect, and improve society. The semester will be divided into four sections, each section taking four weeks of class to explore one social topic and complete a social service project executed in 100% English. Each section will include four sessions: (1) introduction to topic and planning sessions using group discussion in English, (2) group research, discussion, and exchange of information in English to support the topic, (3) execution of social action using English to work with classmates and perform a social action, and (4) formal presentation in English of results and critiques of projects. Some possible topics are animals, the environment, homeless, children without families, the sick, aged, world peace and/or media influence. Students do not need a previous experience with social volunteerism, but they must display a motivation to use 100% English in their projects, to cooperate with a group, and to affect society in positive ways. Although there are no level requirements, this course is directed at students with intermediate English skills who express a desire to use English in the future academic or career life.
