A wide range of topics is available for consideration:
1. Literature: the topic could fall within the realm of comparative literature studies (e.g., an East-West topic), or the study of a national literature (e.g., British or American), or the topic could focus on the study of particular authors, genres, periods and movements, themes and motifs, literary criticism, Cultural Studies approaches to literature, etc.
2. Linguistics: sociolinguistic approaches seem to be especially relevant and were used in a successful thesis several years ago, but almost any other approach or topic could be explored.
3. Teaching English as a Foreign Language: language acquisition, teaching composition, teaching listening skills, film or television in the language classroom, etc.
4. Other topics: e.g., translation studies, feminism, intercultural communication, topics bringing together literature and other arts (film, music, etc.), and so forth.
