教育目標

“Who am I?” This course will answer an old question with a general survey of identity discourses. Identity (or identities) is socially and culturally constructed; it is fluid, multi-dimensional, and indefinite. It is constructed through the relationship to and differences from the ‘Other’. Several factors shape the formation and transformation of the notions of identity, such as class, race, ethnicity, gender, age, education, religion, and personal experiences. In this course, students will explore factors and experiences that shape who they are. They will also examine: 1) Religion and identity; 2) Clothing, body images and identity; 3) Gender identity; 4) Diasporic and migrant identity. By exploring these topics, students will deepen their understanding of themselves in the context of public discourse and identity politics in a multi-cultural world. Attendance, completion of assigned reading, group discussions and presentations, writing tasks are crucial components in fulfilling the course requirements.

課程概述

In this course, we explore some of the historically important philosophical questions relating to the human person. This will include discussions about the existence (or non-existence) of free will; the question of what makes you the particular person you are; and the nature of the human (and non-human mind).
