Attendance and participation 20 The success of this course depends on the amount of sharing, dialogue, and debate that goes on in class. Part of any educational experience, and particularly one aimed at professional socialization, involves building a community of active, engaged, and reflective participants. This means that you will come to each class having completed all assigned readings that you will be prepared to engage in classroom discussion and activities.
Midterm and Final Project 40 Each student will conduct midterm PowerPoint and final scripted role-play projects related to self-expression development.
In-Class Assignments and Quizzes 20 Assignments and quizzes focusing on self-expression will be administered in class. They will draw on the class readings and activities experienced include but not limit to short oral presentations, dialogue performances, worksheets, and graphic organizers.
Homework 20 Responses, notes, ad reflections will be assigned at instructor’s discretion and generally collected weekly.

【主題: 自我表達完全攻略】 本課程把重點放在自我表達和溝通專題上, 提供學生實際訓練。 在這門課, 學生不僅培養他們自我表達技巧- 包含口語、 寫作和肢體語言, 而且學習如何準備並做出能讓老師、 同事、 上司和客戶驚豔的簡報。 我們利用聽說讀寫同時並重教學方法, 來教導學生建立直接對公開演說的熟練技巧; 探索肢體語言的基礎; 並運用策略和同儕社交互動。 這門課提供學生更了解自己的機會, 並找出具備競爭力的利基. 【Theme of this course:English for Self-Expression】 English for self-expression course provides students with hands-on training through projects which focus on self-expression and communication. In this course, students will not only develop their self-expression skills, including oral language, written language, and body language, but also study how to prepare for and deliver professional presentations to impress instructors, colleagues, supervisors, and clients in the future. Using a balanced approach to four-skill based instruction, students will develop first-hand conversance with public speaking skills; explore the basics of body language; and employ strategies to network with peers. The course gives students opportunities to understand themselves better and to find their competitive niche.

「大二英文」是一個以學習者為中心的模組化課程。針對學生個人學習興趣及相關系所之專業需求,開設四大模組課程,分別為「職涯與專業」、「日常溝通」、「多元文化」以及「自我表達技巧」。四大模組分別由具有共同核心目標但涵蓋不同主題之課程所建構而成。所有的課程均以學期為單位,學生根據個別興趣及需求,必須於兩學期選擇兩門不同的模組課程。本課程結合討論、展演及實作等各類學習活動,讓學生能在更多元、自主的學習語境中,具體強化其英語文溝通能力。 本課程屬於「自我表達技巧」模組,透過多元題材與多媒體資源提升教學成效,協助學生增進英語聆聽與口說能力,具體提升學生的表達能力與自信,並精進其英語簡報及演說技巧。 The SENM program is a student-centered module-based program which offers students choices and interactive classes. The program encourages students to tailor their English learning to their specific needs and interests by offering four semester-based modules: Career and Profession, Daily Communication, Multiculturalism, and Self-Expression Skills. Additionally, within each of the four modules, there are different themes, or topics, around which each course‘s curriculum is built. Each SENM student must choose two different module courses in two semesters according to their interests and needs. A variety of class activities such as discussions, role plays, and presentations is incorporated into the program to provide a more effective and productive learning environment for the students. This specific course belongs to the Self-Expression Skills Module. This module enhances students’ oral presentation techniques. It also helps students to improve their listening skills and boost their confidence in public speaking. Course Objectives: On completion of the course, students should be able to 1) deliver a variety of formal and informal presentations in English; 2) present ideas clearly with emphasis on effective use of verbal and nonverbal communication skills; 3) demonstrate critical thinking skills in daily life communication, both as a speaker and as a listener; and 4) express their ideas in English more confidently.
