教育目標
This course uses science fiction to explore the human condition, the nature of reality, and speculate about the future. Science fiction scenarios can help us to consider what it means to be human and how to relate to the environment and other forms of life; it can raise questions about the nature of reality itself; and it can help us to think through the future of humanity, including the implications of scientific and technological advances. In this course we will engage with philosophical readings on science fiction scenarios, on topics such as whether we’re living in a simulation, superintelligence, genetic engineering, time travel, human cyborgs, and more. Each section of the course will be accompanied by a science film to help us think through the issues we discuss in an imaginative way.
In this class, we will be using an “un-grading” approach to learning. This means that we will not be using traditional grades or a grading system to evaluate your progress throughout the course. Instead, the focus will be on the learning process itself, and on you, the student, as the center of your own learning experience.
