教育目標

This course explores ideas about humanity, nature of the queerkind, personhood & enslavement, sexuality & reproduction in contemporary science fiction and speculative art design. We will examine these themes as represented in films, short stories, and bio-art (The “B.A.D. award” website https://www.badaward.nl/artists-scientists and The Bio-Art Database https://bioart.iaa.nycu.edu.tw/). These textual and visual narratives allow us to imagine the ways that will perpetuate the continuation of the human race, while at the same time they impel us to question the social, cultural, biological, sexual and ethical boundaries between human and non-human. Through these narratives, we will examine what science and technology suggest about our human future and consider the relationships between human and non-human or virtual species. Upon completion of this course, students will: 1. Demonstrate a fair understanding of the representations of the social, biological and sexual boundaries between human and non-human 2. Enhance critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills 3. Demonstrate adequate written and oral communication skills within a variety of formal and informal circumstances.
