By the end of this course, students will be able to: •recognize, recall, define, describe, and restate the basic language of financial economics used by policymakers, practitioners, and professional economists •apply financial economics models to explain and analyze historical facts about financial sectors •develop the ability to learn by accessing, comprehending, and evaluating information and economic opinions about the financial sector and its relationship to society as a whole •use theory and evidence to evaluate claims about the efficacy of controversial policies (e.g. leverage requirements, disclosure regulation, bans on insider trading bans, etc.) •distinguish between positive and normative justifications for various financial policies, which might alter the relationship between finance and society
