教育目標

“Who am I?” This course will answer an old question with a general survey of identity discourses. Identity (or identities) is socially and culturally constructed; it is fluid, multi-dimensional, and indefinite. It is constructed through the relationship to and differences from the ‘Other.’ Several factors shape the formation and transformation of the notions of identity, such as class, race, ethnicity, gender, age, education, religion, and personal experiences. In this course, students will explore factors, cultural values, and personal experiences that shape who they are. They will examine: 1) Name & identity; 2) Bodies & Gender identity; 3) Sexuality & Queer Identity; 4) Immigration Experiences and Diasporic identity. By exploring these topics, students will deepen their understanding of themselves in the context of identity politics in a multicultural world. Attendance, completion of assigned reading, group discussions and presentations, and writing tasks are crucial components in fulfilling the course requirements.
