教育目標

This course examines Taiwan's strategic position in East Asian geoeconomics through the lens of its key industries, with particular emphasis on the semiconductor sector. Students will analyze how Taiwan leveraged its geographical location and industrial capabilities to become an integral part of global supply chains, especially in high-tech manufacturing. The course explores Taiwan's evolution from one of the Four Asian Tigers to its current role as a critical node in the global semiconductor industry, focusing on TSMC as a central case study. Through analysis of contemporary geopolitical dynamics, students will understand how Taiwan navigates between competing global powers while maintaining its economic significance. The course addresses critical challenges including supply chain restructuring, technological competition between major powers, and regional economic integration. Students will gain insights into how Taiwan's semiconductor industry shapes international relations, trade policies, and security considerations in East Asia. The course also examines how Taiwan's experience as a key player in global technology supply chains offers lessons for industrial development and economic strategy in the broader Asian context.
