This 2-credit elective for Japanese majors is designed to improve students’ real life English language. Students are expected to accomplish fours areas of communicative competency through goal-oriented lesson plans. This class makes connection to their prior English learning and builds practical content-based knowledge with the textual representations of National Geographic. The use of English will be carried out in contextual real environment with an emphasis on real world language. Coupled with that, students are expected to use supplementary materials provided by the supporting website for this course to convey their interactive learning of the world around them.
II. Course Objectives:
On the completion of the course, students should be able to:
A) display their intercultural knowledge about the world in real language.
B) display the use of real language in different socio-cultural contexts.
C) explore the core knowledge of national geography with the use of supporting web-texts.
