This course is designed for sophomores in the Department of Sociology to enhance their reading comprehension by building up their vocabulary words in different content areas and strategic training. To promote student’s English learning motivation and develop critical thinking, simplified novels and authentic materials, such as newspaper and magazines, will also be introduced to the course. Listening, speaking, and writing activities will be integrated into the lesson. Students in this class are expected to read critically and interact with the articles they read actively. Several reading and writing assignments like reading comprehension worksheets or reading journals will be assigned almost weekly. Students are also expected to listen to the daily radio program of their English learning magazine weekly. Classroom activities include active reading, discussion, oral presentation, and movie watching.
