教育目標

The purpose of the piano literature course during the first semester is to offer an overall assessment of keyboard music from J. S. Bach to Robert Schumann. Of course it is impossible to present and study every important piece written during that time in one semester. Instead, it is the goal of this course to come to an understanding of each important composer of keyboard music and representative works that they wrote. Hopefully, by the end of the course a student will be able to hear the difference between a Mozart Sonata and one by Haydn and to have an intellectual and artistic understanding of what, exactly, the differences are. The course will be graded primarily on the mid-term and final examinations. In addition, there will be several small listening examinations at various points in the semester. The class will meet for two hours each week (Tuesday from 9:10 to 10:05 and Friday from 10:20 to 11:15.
