評分方式

評分項目	配分比例	說明
Midterm exam	15	Written exam (4 pages)
Final exam	25	Written exam (6 pages)
Quizzes	10	Two 2-page tests will be given.
Attendance	10	If you are late for class, each time 5 points will be taken off the Attendance grade. If you are absent from class, 5 points will be taken off the Attendance for each one-hour absence.
Independent study	10	Pair work; each pair is required to study one of the grammatical points suggested by the teacher and create a handout with 20 example sentneces.
Oral presentation	5	Each student is required to give a 2-minute speech about English learning experiences.

教育目標

On completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. recognize the elements of sentence structure; 2. improve their reading comprehension; 3. develop a perspective on the relative importance of several ideas within a single sentence; and 4. be alert to unexpected errors in their everyday reading.

課程概述

This three-credit course is designed to give students a strong foundation in the basics of standard English grammar. There will be more detailed discussions of many aspects of grammar such as sentence patterns, phrases, clauses, and punctuation. Then students will be given exercises that emphasize sentence-level writing skills to apply their knowledge of the material just studied.
