Pronunciation plays a significant role in language learning. It directly affects learners' communicative competence as well as performance. One of the key requirements for language proficiency is to secure understandable pronunciation for the language learners. This course will involve the segmental level (e.g., ship/sheep) and the supra-segmental (macro) level including linking, intonation and stress. Particular attention is given to identifying specific pronunciation features that cause problems for learners, raising the awareness of the prosodic features of language (stress, intonation, rhythm), expected to developing learners’ communicative competence. Course Objectives: By the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. Improve their monitoring skills by listening for specific pronunciation features. 2. Promote clear, effective communication 3. Build self-confidence and increase the students’ comfort when speaking English 4. Do on their own to make lasting changes in their pronunciation
