課程概述

Students in Tunghai University speak languages such as English and Chinese, that differ in many aspects, like phonetics, morphology, syntax and writing systems. This course aims to present a context of the linguistic diversity of the world, so that the students can better understand the reasons of the differences between the languages they know, and the place that these languages occupy in the existing diversity in the world. The course will also address some questions such as: • What are the language families in the world? • What are the main differences between the world languages? • What are the writing systems that exist? • Are some languages more difficult than others? Why? • What are artificial languages and why are they created? • How and why do languages change?
