教育目標

On completion of this course, students should: - have a basic understanding of the most well known Biblical stories so that they will recognize allusions to the Biblical characters, places and sayings when they come across them in literature. - be able to apply a contemporary literary approach to reading the Bible while placing it in the context of ancient Near Eastern literature. - be acquainted with the historical and cultural background of the texts, thereby enabling them to better understand the intentions of the writers. - have gained more insight into the Bible's influence on western thought

課程概述

Because of the numerous biblical allusions found in the works of Western literature, it is commonly believed that students cannot enjoy and understand Western literature to its fullest without some knowledge of the Bible. While this course is designed to help students overcome the aforementioned challenge (familiarizing students with bible characters and stories), the Old and New Testaments will be studied for their own unique value. Students will be introduced to the various biblical genres such as narrative, poetry, prophecy, parable, and epistle. Moreover, key biblical concepts such as covenant, sin, judgment, justification, sanctification, Messiah, and eternal life will be introduced.
