經濟數學是經濟學家利用數學符號來敘述問題，同時運用已知的數學定理來協助作經濟分析的方法。他應用的範圍可包括個體經濟學及總體經濟學等任何領域。本課程的目的就是讓學生瞭解目前在經濟學的文獻當中常用到的最基本的數學方法。課程內容包含均衡分析、線性模型、矩陣運算、利用矩陣求線性模型的解、比較靜態、最適化等。

The purpose of the course is for students to master essential mathematical tools and methods relevant to economics. Throughout the semester, the student should know the basic concepts of linear algebra, calculus of functions of several variables, including calculation of partial derivatives of explicit and implicit functions, solutions of problems of unconditional and conditional optimization. The student should be able to investigate economic problems of comparative statics using the methods of a calculus, to discover points of maximum and minimum for functions of several variables, to use the method of Lagrange multiplier, to find extreme points of functions subjected to constraints.
