The purpose of this course is to provide the basis for a deeper understanding of the structures of organic compounds and the mechanisms of organic reactions. The level is aimed at advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. The goals are to solidify the student’s understanding of basic concepts provided by an introduction to organic chemistry and to present more information and detail than can be presented in the first course in organic chemistry.This course will focus on the discussion of the commonly-seem and uncommon organic reaction mechanisms. The students will learn how to derive logical reaction mechanisms under a given reaction condition, as well as to design experiments to provide evidence for the proposed mechanism.
