In this one-year course, we will further develop the fundamental microeconomics tools that you have learned in the Principle of Economics. This course consists of three parts: (1) producers, consumers, and competitive markets; (2) market structure and competitive strategy; (3) information, market failure, and the role of government. In the first semester, we will cover the topics including the theory of consumers behavior, the theory of the firm, market equilibrium under perfect competition and its welfare analysis. In the second semester, we will discuss how the pricing, investment, and output decisions of firms depend on different market structures and the behavior of competitors. Then we will introduce the concepts of asymmetric information and market failure, as well as behavioral economics. After one-year learning, students should be familiar with the basic concepts and tools in microeconomics and be able to analyze relevant problems in the real world.
