教育目標

This course will introduce students to fairy tales, folk tales, and modern adaptations based on fairy tales as a major part of literature aimed at adults. Fairy tales are types of narrative that children (and their parents) will be exposed to, either in visual form (picture books), in illustrated texts, or as films and theatre productions. Moreover, fairy tales have been the basis for literary works (such as poetry, short stories, novels, films, etc.) aimed at readers across different age groups both in the past and the present. This course aims to introduce students to various kinds of fairy tales written for adults and will look at fairy tales from different traditions. The historical development of fairy tales will be discussed, covering the early oral tradition of fairy tales, the censored fairy tales for children, the development of literary fairy tales in the 19th century, the creation of fractured fairy tales in the 20th century, and modern fairy tale adaptations for adults. This course aims to introduce students to various aspects of fairy tales and the transformation of fairy tale motifs into adult literature. Students will also learn to approach fairy tales and their adaptations critically, applying different literary theories to the tales.
