This course is intended to familiarize students with the evolution and dynamics of international governance. While the common view tends to highlight the anarchic nature of world politics, the operation of global affairs has been conditioned by a variety of institutions embodied in multiple organizations. The first semester of this course will focus on the United Nations -- the axis of the current system of global governance. Topics will include the evolution of the UN, institutional features, conflict resolution, human rights etc.
The Politics ofGlobal Governance: International Organizations in an Interdependent World, FIFTH EDITION, edited by Brian Frederking and Paul F. Diehl
