教育目標

For college students, research into topics will sharpen the problem perception, lend some hypotheses, and yield new theories;while technical papers especially, often require the learners to seek out and investigate sources of information further than their own knowledge and experience. And yet these papers for technology,to be specific, are not the collection of some persons’opinions, but the carefully constructed presentation for a series of ideas, which relies on formal sources for clarification and verification—other final products of research are so too, though. Thus the need has arisen for this technical English course, not only from the students beginning engineering studies, but also for the potential authorities engaged in writing forms.Technical papers,to greater extents than other research products, are characterized by lucid, coherent exposition, while no set of conventions for preparing these manuscripts should interfere with lively and intelligent writing. In addition,it is highly important that learned facts and borrowed ideas must be fully documented in the reports of technology, usually through footnotes and endnotes—this is,somehow, often suggested with other reports of studies as well—but always in such manners that the documentation supports rather than overshadows the technical papers itself. In fact, there are many further suggestions as to the mechanics and formats of technological reports, based upon the considerations and recommendations of those related experts(throughout US particularly),also being offered to engineers and the learners worldwide.Thereafter, the local college teachers have somewhat fallen into the way of breeding their own students to(for the undergraduates at least for one set of)those paper conventions.Incidentally, the writing issues of more ordinary manuscripts—and even the elementary style reviews of word choices, sentence structures, tones, and so on—however, should not be covered in the course.
