The instructor will utilize lectures, discussions, readings and assignments to help students develop an understanding of the principles of economics and the applications to the issues concerning markets and the environment. Students are encouraged and directed to think and engage into the real-world problems as they relate to the environment around us, through discussion sessions and problem solving activities. The course contents and objectives include: 1. Learning the principles of economics and thinking like an economist 2. Understanding how markets work and the consequences of market behaviors to the environment 3. Studying the approaches to environmental quality management and the design of environmental policy 4. Examining macroeconomic and international issues concerning economic development and the environment.
