1. Structure and ionization properties of amino acids and polypeptides. Ionization equations and calculation of the
net charge of polypeptides.
2. Secondary structures of proteins, the Ramachandran angles(dihedral angles) of peptides. Modern concepts of
molecular recognitions, receptors, receptor-ligand interactions, enzyme-substrate interactions. The Scatchard
equation.
3. Enzyme kinetics, derivation and applications of the Michaelis-Menten equation.
4. Importance of enzyme inhibitors and applications in modern drug developments.
Derivation of the equations for competitive enzyme inhibitors. Enzyme catalytic principles and mechanisms:
Coenzyme and mechanisms
5. DNA structure, major groove and minor groove figures. DNA-protein interactions,
DNA-small ligand interactions. Restriction endonuclease mechanisms.
