藉由最新的文獻閱讀學習新的統計方法與相關計算方式。

課程概述

The aim of this course is to enhance the mathematical maturity and the general mathematical abilities of the new doctoral students. This course is very flexible and does not have a prescribed course plan. Based on the need of the students, the instructor of this course selects a suitable textbook as a basis for conducting this course. The instructor briefly explains the subtle points of the material to the students and assigns a number of exercise problems (from the text and outside the text). The students are expected to at least complete the assigned homework in full detail. The mathematical rigor is emphasized. Students’ assignments are critically graded. During the past few years, this method of instruction has been conducted on a one to one basis with a number of students. The text selected was the introductory analysis book by Rudin. Upon completion of this course (in two semesters), the students generally feel more confident in doing serious mathematics and better prepared to engage in advanced study.
