CompOral II builds on the English-language skills developed in CompOral I. This two-part course focuses primarily on writing multi-paragraph essays and using spoken English for academic purposes, such as group discussions and delivering oral presentations. The course will continue to stress accuracy in speaking and writing and will emphasize skills and strategies to improve your ability to communicate in English. You will also learn how to analyze and strengthen your own and your classmates written and spoken English. The general goal of the course is to increase your academic English language proficiency to the highintermediate level in speaking and writing.

By the end of the semester, you will be able to (1) do self-reviews of your own essays and peer-reviews of classmates’ essays; (2) use different writing strategies (definition, classification, comparison / contrast) to develop expository essays; (3) write argumentative essays with sensible reasons and evidence; (4) employ multiple strategies/organizational patterns to write essay exams; and (5) design your own résumé.English Composition II (Spring semester) continues to emphasize on strengthening students' academic writing ability. Through lectures on various writing strategies (definition, classification, example, comparison/contrast, and argumentation), the reading of professional essays and in-class writing, students will learn from the instructor and fellow classmates on improving their writing skills. Most importantly, students will be trained to think and write accurately, academically, critically, and independently.
