選課分析

small write-up, seminar discussion, paper presentation and term paper 100

The course is designed to introduce graduate (and/or Under grade with advanced- level) students to the central themes, concepts, theories, and debates in the study of global/international governance, which is a phenomenon made distinct by the anarchic nature of the Westphalian system in IR. The aim of this course is to elucidate the concept of 「Governance」 in its various meanings and to demonstrate how international organizations/institutions and regimes are related to, and indispensable, for global/international governance. And thus it can contribute to our understanding of the contemporary IR field, and its applications of the utility of international institutions and regimes in achieving public goods through collective action instead of self-help.

The aim of this graduate seminar course is to introduce students to the central themes, concepts, theories, and debates in the study of global/international governance, and to demonstrate how thinking, the concept and theories about international/global governance can contribute to our understanding of the contemporary IR field. And the approach of this course to the global and international governance both as an emergent focus of research in IR, and an explication of the utility of international organizations/institutions and regimes in achieving public goods(ie., norms, values and maintenance of peace and stability)through collective action in lieu of unilateral self-help.
